21st Century Test Taking...

Here's an article that's sure to raise some eyebrows, but I agree with the need to move testing into the 21st century too! Check out the article at http://www.districtadministration.com/viewarticle.aspx?articleid=1199.

I attended a conference in Boston this summer where several international educators told how texts, notebooks, computers, and other student-created materials are expected at their national exams! Why limit the students to a relatively small body of knowledge that can be memorized and spit back on a test?

Would Pink agree? Is Souderton ready for this? What do you think??

Hi Dave! Okay....I am really not all that tech savvy (I'm pretty sure I just stopped short of creating some type of blog account while trying to respond to your article), but I have such a mixed response to the test taking article, that I had to respond. I cringe when I read headlines like "Let Them Cheat" (probably an automatic response stemming from my Catholic school academic experiences) but when I take a second to digest what the author has to say regarding test questions, formats and real world applications, I see an opportunity for students, ALL STUDENTS, to showcase what they know and how they can apply it. This is an avenue I'd love to explore and read more about as a way for some of my friends in learning support to excell and be successful in showcasing their individual skills. Do I have the beginnings of my 2007-2008 professional goal?!?! I am going out today to buy A Whole New Mind-it sounds like a must-read!

The title certainly is provocative! I'm glad you got past it to the meat of the argument. It certainly has implications for LD students.

get the book - I'll be doing a book study again. Would you be interested in doing that book for your professional goal?

Hi Dave,
Actually, I was involved in a chat situation, not a blog, through my Grad work with Alvernia College.

I read the previous blog done by the summer coursers, and a few items caught my eye. I'd really like to add some right-brained activities to my repetoire, so hopefully I'll get some new ideas.
